Wonderful autumn weather, numerous guests from near and far, regional delicacies, fine wines, and a diverse program: The 31st Traditional Wine & Harvest Festival in Bad Waltersdorf became a vibrant celebration for all ages.
On Sunday, September 27, Bad Waltersdorf was all about the harvest, wine, and living tradition. In perfect autumn weather, numerous guests flocked to the town center to celebrate together, enjoy regional specialties, and spend a sociable day in the heart of the Bad Waltersdorf 2-Thermal Region.
The festive opening was marked by the harvest procession, followed by the traditional harvest thanksgiving mass, where thanks were given for the harvest and the many valuable things in life. For Pastor Mag. David Schwingenschuh, who recently began his ministry in Bad Waltersdorf, it was also his first harvest festival in the community.
Afterward, the traditional morning social provided excellent entertainment. The Bad Waltersdorf Market Brass Band provided the musical accompaniment for the day and set the mood for a cozy afternoon. The folk music ensemble from the music school also delighted the audience with their performances and contributed to the atmospheric setting.
The Neudau Schuhplattler provided another traditional highlight. With their energetic performances and impressive routines, they thrilled the audience and brought plenty of movement to the festivities.
Royalty Visiting Bad Waltersdorf
Numerous festival royalties were also guests at the Wine & Harvest Festival. Flower Queen Sarah Milchrahm with her princesses Tanja Kager and Katharina Pessl, as well as Wine Queen Sandra Purkart, gave the festival a special festive flair.
During the official welcome, Mayor Johann Fiedler, Vice-Mayor Herbert Ferstl, Pastor Mag. David Schwingenschuh, Mag. Gernot Deutsch from the Heilthermen Resort Bad Waltersdorf, and Michael Taucher from the H2O Hotel-Therme-Resort were greeted. Greetings were also extended to all honorary guests present, representatives from the municipality, business, associations, and the region, as well as, of course, all festival guests, who together created the special atmosphere of this day.
Regional Delicacies and Fine Wines
The Wine & Harvest Festival also had plenty to offer in terms of culinary delights. The many festival guests could sample a diverse selection of regional and homemade specialties. From grilled chicken and schnitzel to homemade burgers, cheese spaetzle, and various topped breads, there was something for every taste.
Those with a sweet tooth also got their money’s worth: Buchteln (sweet rolls), Strauben (funnel cakes), Apfelschlangerl (apple pastry), freshly roasted chestnuts, and many other sweet treats rounded off the culinary offerings.
Of course, wine could not be missing from the vintners’ festival. The winemakers presented their fine drops and invited guests to taste and enjoy. Fitting for the season, this year’s Sturm (young wine) was also a must, providing a true taste of autumn.
“Die Jungen Wilden” Got the Festival Grounds Dancing
In the afternoon, “Die Jungen Wilden” ensured a great atmosphere. With their lively program, they brought plenty of energy to the festival. There was dancing, laughing, and celebrating together.
The festival grounds became a meeting point for young and old, and the exuberant mood lasted well into the evening hours.
A Festival with Tradition and Heart
The 31st Traditional Wine & Harvest Festival has once again shown how beautifully living tradition, regional cuisine, music, and social togetherness can be combined.

With wonderful autumn weather, a varied program, and many personal encounters, everyone celebrated, laughed, and enjoyed together. Thus, the Wine & Harvest Festival remains a special highlight in the event calendar of the Bad Waltersdorf 2-Thermal Region in its 31st edition.
