General information:

The Gourmet Tour is a popular trail that can be hiked or ridden on an e-mountain bike all year round. Along the 12 km route, there are 24 experience stops as well as numerous culinary stops—from traditional wine taverns and inns to wineries and farm shops—that can be discovered throughout the year. With a stamp pass, you can take part in the Gourmet Tour prize draw. Great regional prizes are raffled off every year.

The culinary experience is not only symbolized by the snack boards along the way. More than 13 culinary stations and farm shops invite you to linger, from cake & coffee to hearty snacks and a good glass of wine.

From the historic town center, you reach the spa park directly with the public thermal spa. Turn right and you’ll arrive at the first culinary station, the family-run wine tavern “Der Pieber”. Followed by “Weinhof Buschenschank Thaler”, where music is also at home. Fortified by the first delicacies, the route leads uphill through the forest. The strenuous climb is worth it! The “Maluhof” offers not only homemade treats but also a breathtaking view over Bad Waltersdorf, a large playground for children, and farm animals to meet. From here, the route continues over the “Sauberg”. At Hofladen Janisch, you’ll get an insight into farming, a life as you imagine it. After two more experience stations, you reach Leitersdorf and the village inn Seiler-Ziegler. Here the route goes gently downhill. A rest in the cozy garden under large, old trees is a must. For the next climb, you can quickly refill your snack bag at Hofladen Fiedler. Then it’s uphill to the Bergstadl wine tavern. Once seated on the panoramic terrace, the Thermal and Volcanic Region stretches out before you with all its natural beauty. After a good kilometer, passing the blowpipe and archery course, you reach a small motor skills park at the Gasthof-Restaurant Teuschler-Mogg.

Time for the final stretch. Passing the 18-hole golf course—with the golf restaurant “Das Willis”—the well-known church tower of Bad Waltersdorf comes into view. Sometimes you’re lucky and are guided by the hot-air balloons above the town centre. At the Thermenbauer shop in town, you’ll find tasty souvenirs to take home. The finish is back at the spa park. Don’t forget: pick up your ice cream at the Kulturhaus—free with three stamps. Fill out the prize card and drop it into the mailbox at the finish point.

Stamp pass - prize draw

At the end of each summer season, accommodation prizes in Bad Waltersdorf are raffled among all participants with a stamped brochure. You can find the brochure with stamp pass at the start of the route in front of the Kulturhaus Bad Waltersdorf.

Trail info

The trail is partly paved, runs over forest ground or gravel, and there are short climbs to master along the way. The entire tour is easy to manage on foot or with an e-mountain bike if you have a moderate level of fitness. The route is also suitable for strollers; for this, the ascent to the Maluhof via Thermenstraße (healing thermal baths to Steirerhof) is recommended—not through the forest section.

Good to know

The route is also ideal for families. Numerous playgrounds along the route provide a welcome change of pace for the little ones:
