Thomas Mauerhofer successfully finished the Race Across America (RAAM) 2026, achieving a sensational 4th place overall. After 4,933 kilometres across the USA, 13 states and around 10 days, 22 hours and 48 minutes in the saddle, the East Styrian crossed the finish line in Atlantic City – writing an impressive chapter in sporting history.
But behind this success lies far more than a strong race result.
From major setback to great triumph
Back in 2018, Thomas Mauerhofer seemed on track for a top placing in the world’s toughest cycling race. A serious accident resulting in a broken cervical vertebra abruptly ended his dream. Many would have given up. Not Thomas.
Eight years later, he returned. With unwavering determination, mental strength and countless training kilometres, he fought his way through heat, exhaustion, physical pain and sleepless nights – all the way to the finish on the USA’s East Coast.
His fourth place at the Race Across America is the well-deserved reward for an extraordinary journey full of challenges, setbacks and perseverance.
