Riegersburg

The impressive Riegersburg Castle sits atop a former volcanic rock approximately 482 meters high and is considered the landmark of the southeastern Styrian hill country. Its mighty fortifications and strategic elevation have ensured that it was never conquered throughout its long history.

Visitors can reach the castle either via the historic footpath with seven gates and eleven bastions or conveniently by panoramic elevator. Inside, a rich program of experiences awaits: Three museums (Castle Museum, Witch Museum, Weapons Museum) offer insights into the worlds of past centuries—from magnificent living quarters and impressive exhibits to a thematic examination of witch persecution.

Special offerings are available for families: children’s tours, audio guides in multiple languages, a large playground, and an exciting scavenger hunt make the visit an adventure for young guests as well. The castle also features spectacular birds of prey flight demonstrations and action-packed activities such as via ferratas on the rock face.

The castle tavern tempts visitors with regional cuisine, a viewing terrace, and the opportunity to enjoy Styrian wines on-site.
Whether as a historic monument, family destination, or panoramic excursion—Riegersburg Castle combines experience, history, and nature in a unique way.
