The Bad Waltersdorf Region
In 1975, the valuable natural treasure of “thermal water” was found in the former municipality of Waltersdorf instead of oil. Locals soon recognized the healing effects of the hot water, and so the Heiltherme was put into operation in 1984. Following its designation as the spa town of “Bad Waltersdorf” in 1989, the H2O Hotel-Therme-Resort opened in 2005, creating today’s 2-spa region of Bad Waltersdorf from the two former municipalities of Sebersdorf and Waltersdorf.
Upon arrival, the three roundabouts—the so-called “Gateways to Bad Waltersdorf”—welcome guests artistically in the form of a water gate, a water drop, and a celestial vault. Small, family-run farms complement and supply the spa hotels, inns, and guesthouses with delicious products. The focus is on quality and regional cooperation, and you can really taste it.
The lovingly produced products range from elderberry, horseradish, apples, and scarlet runner beans to fruit, juices, nectars, wines, and schnapps, as well as honey, jams, and of course the Styrian “green gold,” pumpkin seed oil.
For those who want to experience all of this firsthand while doing something good for their body, the “Feinspitztour” (Gourmet Tour) through Bad Waltersdorf is highly recommended. Sporty guests will find a true paradise in Bad Waltersdorf: tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, a 3D archery course, Europe’s largest forest ropes course, a ballooning center, diverse running, hiking, and cycling trails, and much more.

Bad Waltersdorf – the 2-spa region, where warmth, nature, and hospitality become a source of pure relaxation.
History - Origins in Roman Times
Celts and Romans settled here as early as 2,500 years ago; in the Middle Ages, “Walthers-Dorf” grew around the parish church and Obermayerhofen Castle. For centuries, trade, faith, and nature shaped life in Eastern Styria. But it wasn’t until 1975, when hot water was found instead of oil, that the success story of the modern spa town began.
Today, Bad Waltersdorf combines history, health, and indulgence—from its Roman heritage to its bubbling thermal waters. A place that provides warmth—inside and out.
